This scary world we live in.

I had an experience the other day that left me extremely sad and a little bit paranoid. I go to Camrie's kindergarten class once a month to be a parent helper. I was there last week and right in the middle of doing our project the principle comes over the intercom and says "this is a safety drill" At first I am thinking fire drill...or possibly earthquake drill?

OH NO

This was a safety drill in case a SHOOTER was in the school. The teacher had to lock the door from the inside and get all of the kids away from the door and windows. They had to sit there quietly for about 10 minutes while all the rooms were checked to see if they did it correctly.

I was almost in tears to think of my sweet little innocent children having to be told why they had to practice this drill. Why do they need to know that there are people in this world who want to kill you for no reason. How do I keep them safe and preserve what little naivety they have?

What is this world coming to?

Okay, so Lexi came home that day and told me all about the safety drill that they did that day. I thought the same thing as you. I just wanted to cry. I hate to imagine that this is so a part of their school experience. I also hate to imagine what I would do if this ever became a reality. Scares me to death! Can't we live in a bubble.

Yeah, I taught 4th grade for a year and we did those drills as well. It's happened so much that it has to be a routine drill now. Scary!
How was your Christmas by the way. How have you been?

When we lived in Las Vegas I went to pick Taylor up from Kindergarten, and the school was on complete lockdown. SCARY! Turns out they had a felon run from the police within a 1/2 mile radius so the school was put on lockdown for safety. This is so scary knowing it's a real thing and that it can happen.

They do those drills at our school too. They do a complete lock down of the school and have the kids all hide in the dark away from the doors and windows. Isn't is frightening that our kids have to worry about something like this. It is a scarry world. And yes I think arranged marriages could be worked out. Your girls are just darling.

What happen to the good old days where we said "Hi" to everyone we passed, our parents let us sleep outside every night during the summer and we were even allowed to go to the movies with just our friends when we were 8? It's so sad that our kids live in this world full of SICKOS! Sadly, they have to do drills like this because of all the psychos out there!

The good Ol' days? When I was a kid we practiced drills for a nuclear bomb. I'm not sure, but I am guessing my Mom hated those as well. I will have to ask her. This has always been a scary place, but it is better to be prepared for what ever can happen. In junior high, a kid I knew came in to the school with a rifle to shoot a teacher. He spent a little time in Juvie but came back to school not long after that. No lockdowns - just something that happened. At least now we try to prepare our kids. Good for the schools I say.

Heres an even scarier thought. I am one of the ones there to protect your little ones! Now, you really should be scared. Just kidding. I am glad they prepare us for something like that. I am also very glad that our school is out of the way and not on a major road. I use to think about these crazy things when I worked at the high school. I was the first person you would see when you walked into the building. It made me a little uneasy knowing that I would be the first target. I wish we could just trust everyone. I miss those days when everyone was a friend.

It is down-right frightening to think of something like that happening in SCHOOL and that our children have to practice drills like this. Makes me very paranoid to even send my kids to school. I love the BUBBLE idea!

It is a scary world. Who ever thought things would be like this? I worry daily about my grandchildren and pray for them all the time. I am thankful that they have great parents who take care of them and protect them. Thank you, for giving us the best grandkids ever and for taking such good care of them. We love you!!

Wow! There is some perspective. I was reading in the scriptures about putting on the whole armor of God. I have read this many times over the years, but this time around left me with the feeling of urgency to arm my children with this protection. What else can be said?
